General and professional competences
Through student-centered, problem-oriented training and proactive self-study, applicants for higher education learn the general and professional competences necessary for successful professional activity. General competencies include, in particular, the ability to exercise their rights and responsibilities as a member of society, to understand the values of civil (free democratic) society, the rule of law, human and civil rights and freedoms in Ukraine, to preserve and increase the moral, cultural, scientific values and achievements of society in their professional activities, to be critical and self-critical, to learn throughout life and to master modern knowledge, to be able to identify, set and solve problems, to work in a team and independently of others.Professional competencies include: awareness of the structure of philological science and its theoretical foundations, the ability to use the knowledge of the language as a special sign system, its nature, functions, levels, theory and history of English and German languages in the professional activities of a technical translator, to analyze the dialect and social varieties of languages , to adapt his speech behavior in the socio-cultural characteristics of the country with which the dialogue is being held, freely, flexibly and effectively use English and second German languages in oral and written form, in different genre-style types of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), for the implementation of technical and other types of translation and solving different types of communicative tasks in various spheres of life, to carry out branch translation in particular the field of metallurgy, mechanical engineering, enterprise economics and management, freely use special terminology, use the main types of software: text editors, educational grams, statistical programs for processing information, and the like.

The department prepares applicants for higher education in the Educational-professional program "Translation from English" in the specialty 035 Philology, specialization 035.041 German Languages and Literature (translation inclusive), the first - English, branch of science 03 "Humanities", Degree in higher education bachelor, qualification: Philologist, translator in English.
The purpose of the Professional Education Program
The purpose of the Program is to train specialists in the translation of technical literature from English and second German into Ukrainian.
Learning Objectives for the Program
Aims of the training - preparation of specialists in the field of translation, in particular in the field of metallurgy, mechanical engineering, economy of enterprises and management according to the demands of the labor market of the Dnieper industrial region, able to solve complex specialized problems and practical problems in the field of philology, to translate written and oral texts of different genres and styles and organize successful communication in English, German and Ukrainian.
Higher education major 035 Philology by learning outcomes should be able to solve complex specialized problems and practical problems in the field of technical translation in the course of professional activity, which involves the application of theories and methods of philological science and is characterized by complexity and uncertainty of the conditions.

Suitability of graduates for employment and further education
Graduates of the specialty have the opportunity to hold the positions of translator, consultant, foreign correspondent; positions of engineering and technical staff in the field of bilingual communication and information, namely: translator engineer, secretary-referent, consultant, dealer, public relations officer in management organizations, manufacturing, commercial enterprises and firms, in information and advertising agencies, etc. In some cases, graduates may also hold positions of grassroots executives in the above organizations and institutions related to communication activities.
Further study at the second (master's) level of higher education or acquisition of additional qualifications in the system of postgraduate education is possible.
